Unabashedly sentimental. I'll just never be one of the cool, cynical kids. I'm curious to see what reaction this will get because it's a notably darker turn for KFP, but I wanted the strip to be able to encompass a realistic range of emotions and life experiences, and not every family is a happy one. I've hinted here and there in prior strips that George and Twitch did not exactly have a harmonious home life, and Christmas seemed the perfect time to address it because it let me frame George's character perfectly.

It's going to stay back and white for the foreseeable future, but with a spot of color here and there. In this case, I specifically wanted to use the color to signify that the toy, and their world of imagination, were their colorful escape from the rather dire circumstances of their daily lives.

Wow, this just breaks my heart. Well done, but such a sad thing to see.

I talked to someone else who read it and cried. I didn't want to trivialize their environs or get a laugh out of the situation, and it's heartening to hear that characters who are just pen lines on paper can elicit such strong emotional responses.

Everyone should have such a big brother!
I was a lucky bugger and had one.

Also, Happy New Year. :)

I was very fortunate in not needing one, thanks to a pretty idyllic home life. Happy New Year to you too!

Trust me, even in an idyllic childhood a ten year older and much kinder brother is a fantastic boon.

The unholy terror in our family was yours truly. :)

It's always nice to hear when a strip gets an emotional reaction!
